Hello and welcome to magically messy mama a place that is part parenting and part slice of nerdy witchy life blog. My name is Laura and you have found your way into my adventuring party. Allow me to introduce myself.

First things first I am a mom. I have three kids currently, two of them are my stepchildren and one is my biological baby. If you weren’t interested in parenting shit, or moms who swear this might not be the place for you. I am a first generation responsive parent, which means I practice gentle parenting techniques and use the authoritative parenting style. I’ve made it my mission to break the cycles of generational trauma in my family. All this to say basically I focus on connection and emotional regulation as I try to build a better relationship with my kids. It is my hope that in reading this blog or any of my other content, you will find a kindred spirit and maybe some help in your own journey. I believe in this so much that I am actively getting PhD in developmental psychology, focusing on childhood and adolescent development.

Another important thing you need to know about me is that I am a leftist. I do not mean that I am a Democrat or a liberal. I mean, I am a leftist. I believe in socialized healthcare, universal income, and a livable wage. I believe in equality and equity and if those politics don’t jive with you, this might not be the place for you. You see, I believe that life is political. Parenting is political. Education is political. You cannot escape it, and we have to change the world. We must embrace it. As a woman with many labels, including neurodivergent, bisexual witchy/pagan working class and special needs mom my very existence is political. You have reached a space belonging to one of those purple haired pierced pronoun having leftists. If that makes you uncomfortable and you can’t be nice about it allow me to direct you to the nearest exit.

Now for the fun parts. I am extremely witchy and nerdy. I have always been a little spooky. But I’m learning to lean into my true self more. I’ve never been a serious person, but I have spent a long time pretending to be one for various reasons. I thought I had to be the person folks expected me to be. I’m now choosing me. I’m choosing to embrace the mess. Because magic happens when you let yourself be messy. When you embrace who you are and not who someone wants you to be.

So welcome. Come along for the ride.
